People

Fred M. Behlen, Ph.D.

is Founder and President of LAITEK. A medical physicist specializing in imaging informatics, his career includes experience in industry, academics and healthcare provider organizations. A former faculty member of The University of Chicago, he is Co-chair of the DICOM-HL7 joint working groups (DICOM Working Group 20 / HL7 Imaging Integration SIG). He is also past Co-chair of the HL7 Structured Documents Technical Committee and a Co-Editor of the HL7 Clinical Document Architecture (CDA).

Larry A. Ranahan, M.B.A.

joined Laitek in consulting role in January 2007 and then formally as Vice President of Business Development and Operations in July 2007. He holds an MBA from Oakland University in Rochester Hills, Michigan and has been in the health care industry since 1977 in business, clinical, and association leadership roles. He served as division administrator at the University of Michigan in Nuclear Medicine, and as the Executive Administrator for Radiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and at the University of Chicago where he first collaborated with Dr. Behlen. He was ADAC's (HCIS Division) representative on the IHE Planning Committee in Year 1 and 2. Just prior to joining Laitek, Mr. Ranahan served as CEO of Meridian Regional Imaging, LLC, a Chicago based outpatient imaging center and teleradiology practice management company, from 2001 until 2007. It was during his Meridian tenure that he reconnected with Dr. Behlen and Laitek for a replacement PACS project and data migration effort in 2005.

Razvan Costea-Barlutiu, M.B.A.

an Executive MBA of the Romanian Economical Studies Academy (ASE) and Conseil National des Artes et Metieres (CNAM) - Paris, and Computer Science graduate of Technical University of Cluj Napoca, serves as the Director of Product Engineering and Development for Laitek. Based in Romania and leading Laitek's development and system engineering team, Mr. Costea-Bartultu originally worked with Dr. Behlen in Rossman Labs at University of Chicago in 2001 on the National Digital Mammography archive and developed the first tools that performed a full round-trip conversion from DICOM to XML. Since 2002 he has worked with Laitek on specialized DICOM guided applications including the first WADO implementation at RSNA 2004. He and his team are predominantly focused on developing high-performance PACS components led to the implementation of the Migratek® migration toolkit including the virtual archive and Semperdata™ features and overseeing the technical aspects of all Laitek data migration.
